Suppliers Reminded of Amendments to Georgia’s Technical Regulation on Toy Safety

SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, is advising toy manufacturers and suppliers in Georgia of the publication of Resolution No. 108/2022, which makes several amendments to the country’s Technical Regulation on Toy Safety.

Issued on March 4, 2022, Resolution No. 108/2022 amends the Technical Regulation in a variety of ways, including:

  • Adding toy sub-categories to Annex VII (List of Toys No. 1)
  • Expanding the number of toy categories to nine in Annex VIII (List of Toys No. 2) by adding toy dolls. The full list is now:
    1. Creative toys for activities
    2. Intellectual and educational toys for activities
    3. Role-playing toys for games
    4. Toys for physical activities
    5. Toys with dual purposes
    6. Toys designed for children under the age of three
    7. Toy dolls
    8. Second-hand toys
    9. Others
    10. Inserting new language for limited exemptions for an ‘Advance notice of toy import’

The Technical Regulation on Toy Safety has been revised multiple times since its original publication. Amendments include an expansion in scope to cover toy books and a requirement for importers to submit an ‘Advance notice of toy import’ in electronic form to the authorities for toy categories with specified commodity codes (HS Codes) under Annexes VII and VIII.

Resolution No. 108/2022 became effective upon publication – March 4, 2022.
