SGS Hosts EU Food Contact Material Regulations Webinar

SGS has announced it will host a free
webinar ‘Food Contact Materials – Understanding EU Requirements’ on
March 19, 2020.

Open to food contact quality and
regulatory compliance professionals in the packaging and food industries, the
webinar will explain European Union (EU) requirements in relation to food
contact materials (FCM). It will include an overview of EU regulations,
covering both general and specific measures and recent changes. Following this,
there will be a more detailed look at food contact plastics and compliance in
relation to the Joint Research Center’s (JRC’s) 2019 guidelines.

FCM include both food packaging materials
and other materials or components expected to come into contact with food. This
latter category includes items such as domestic coffee machines and commercial
food processing machinery.

The general framework for FCM in the EU is covered in Regulation (EC) No
1935/2004. It should be noted, however, that certain products will also come
under the scope of targeted regulations for ceramics and various forms of
plastic.

When accessing EU markets, stakeholders need to be aware different
Member States may even maintain requirements of their own, that can exceed EU
standards.

The event will be hosted by Dr. HingWo
Tsang, Global Information and Innovation Manager at SGS. He has over fifteen
years of experience in testing and regulations covering safety and quality in
consumer products. He has particular expertise in the area of substances and
chemicals, and currently leads SGS’s Global Hardlines team in relation to
technical aspects, covering chemical use. In addition to this, Dr. Tsang is also
a member of the SGS’s food contact committee.

Commenting on the webinar, Dr. Tsang stated:
“Our
technical experts have extensive knowledge and testing experience in materials
and articles in contact with food and this webinar is an excellent way for more
organizations to understand the complex regulations around food contact
materials. Through our specialist
training we want to pave the way for more organizations to comply and prosper
in EU markets.”

The webinar will be held on March 19,
2020, at:

  • GMT – 9:00 am
  • Central Europe (Paris, GMT +1:00) – 10:00 am
