SGS To Host Webinar to Explore EU Standards and Regulations for Electronic Toys

In its aim to help toy manufacturers, importers and retailers ensure their Electrical and Electronic (EE) toys
are safe and compliant for
European markets, SGS – the world’s leading
inspection, verification, testing and certification company
, is to host a complimentary webinar.

‘Focus on EN IEC 62115:2020 for Electrical and
Electronic Toys’
takes place on March 24,
2020 and will provide insight into the range of European Union (EU) standards and regulations that
exist to protect children from harm.

The 60-minute webinar will focus on:

  • European Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC
  • Harmonized electrical toy standard EN IEC 62115:2020
  • Other applicable requirements for electric toys such EMC, RED, RoHS2, WEEE
  • Live Q&A session

EE toys are defined as those
which have at least one function dependent on electricity and that are designed
or clearly intended for use in play by children under the age of 14. Since July
2011, toys entering the EU market have been required to comply with the Toy Safety
Directive 2009/48/EC (TSD).

To address electrical safety
in EE toys, standards published by the European Committee for Standardization (CEN)
have been harmonized to ensure conformity with the TSD. Only compliant EE toys
displaying the CE Mark can enter the market.

Sanda
Stefanovic, SGS Toy Expert and Webinar Presenter said: “
Electronic
and electrical toys help children develop their imagination, language skills,
dexterity and more through fun, role-playing and education. If improperly used
or badly designed these toys can rapidly turn from a source of fun into a
serious hazard.

Our free webinar will help
participants better understand how electrical safety impacts products and will
explore the requirements and regulations that should be taken into account to
deliver safe
and compliant EE toys into European markets.
