Ever since the invention of the watch, humans have been drawn to the advantages of wearable technology. It is predicted that by 2024 368.9 million people will be using SWDs. Manufacturers looking to take advantage of this growth therefore need to consider the path to regulatory compliance.
SWDs are, by their very nature, cross category products. They contain electrical and non-electrical elements, all of which must conform to the regulations being enforced in the target market. If either part fails, the whole product could be liable to an expensive recall. For example, in 2014, tracking wristbands were recalled in the US because the material in the wristband irritated the skin and caused blisters.
