SGS becomes the world’s first AnchorCert Pro Licensee

SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification
company, is pleased to announce that it has become the first AnchorCert Pro
Licensee.

AnchorCert
Pro is a unique UKAS-accredited testing methodology that identifies and
measures a suite of 16 metallic elements most likely to cause Allergic Contact
Dermatitis (ACD) and provides regulatory compliance in relation to REACH,
Nickel and General Product Safety Regulations for jewellery, watches and
similar products.

The
accreditation sees SGS leading the way in delivering the AnchorCert Pro Test
method in China. It will enable retailers and brands around the globe to
benefit from an enhanced level of consumer product safety and quality assurance
for their jewellery products, including costume jewellery, watches, fashion and
other consumer goods.

Eddy
Chow, Hardlines Director, SGS China said: “We are delighted to be working with
AnchorCert Analytical and to have gained accreditation to the AnchorCert Pro
Standard. For many brands and retailers, being able to have their products
tested at the source of manufacture is vital. This exciting new partnership
will allow our clients worldwide to ensure an even higher level of consumer product safety and quality
assurance within their jewellery products scope.”

AnchorCert
Pro was developed by a research and development team at the AnchorCert
Analytical lab at the Assay Office Birmingham. This facility was founded in
1773 to provide assaying (testing) and hallmarking of precious metal items as
required by the Hallmarking Act.

Rebecca
Ray, AnchorCert Pro Brand Manager explained: “It is very much part of our
long-term strategy to focus on our R&D expertise so, in order to meet the
increasing AnchorCert Pro testing requirements of both retailers and brands, we
have developed a software application which can be used by laboratories around
the world accredited to ISO/IEC 17025.

“Compliance
with AnchorCert Pro offers brands and retailers alike a number of benefits
including increased sales, reduced returns and increased customer loyalty so
it’s little surprise that there has been such phenomenal interest. We are
delighted to be working with SGS as we look to move forward with our global
ambition for AnchorCert Pro.”

ACD
is commonly caused by jewellery and can create itchy or painful skin
irritation, skin redness, inflammation, and severe rashes, sometimes leaving
permanent scarring. According to Allergy UK, allergic reactions affect up to
20% of the global population, with the UK having some of the highest prevalence
of allergic conditions in the world.
