Press Releases

SGS is accredited as a Notified Body (NB) for the new European Union (EU) Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Regulation in the UK. The new PPE Regulation, (EU) 2016/425, replaces Directive 89/686/EEC. Formal accreditation was given by UKAS against EN ISO/IEC 17065:2012 Conformity assessment -- Requirements for bodies certifying products, processes and services.

In the UK, SGS provides a wide range of services for PPE and workwear testing and certification, and is already accredited for the current EC PPE Directive. The new accreditation will give assurance to economic operators looking for a one-stop solution to achieving PPE compliance in Europe.

Approval as a NB means SGS can give certification on:

By using SGS, manufacturers and suppliers of workwear and PPE are assured of continuity of service. This means existing products will remain compliant and new products can be certified to the new Regulation, before the changeover deadline. SGS is the one-stop-shop for testing and certifying head-to-toe protective equipment, both for industrial and leisure activities.

The EU law will allow existing products to remain certified to Directive 89/686/EEC until April 21, 2019, after this date they must be certified to (EU) 2016/425. It is recommended new products comply with the new regulation as of April 21, 2018.
