Quebec Repeals Stuffed and Upholstered Article Act

The Canadian province of Quebec has repealed its act requiring upholstered and stuffed articles to have a permit and label.

The National Assembly of Quebec passed Bill 103 on December 9, 2021, bring the province into line with Ontario and Manitoba, who repealed their regulations in 2019 and 2020 (respectively).

Effective immediately, the act reduces red tape and includes the repeal of the Act Respecting Stuffing and Upholstered and Stuffed Articles (Chapter M-5). Previously, upholstered and stuffed articles manufactured and sold in Quebec province were required to have a permit and label.

Stakeholders should be aware the Ministry of Economy and Innovation will provide more details on their website in the upcoming weeks.
