New Knitted Leggings Standard Introduced in China

China has introduced a new,
updated version of its industry standard for knitted leggings – FZ/T 73029-2019.

Issued by the Chinese Ministry
of Industry and Information Technology, FZ/T 73029-2019 applies to elastic,
seamless knitted leggings and elastic knitted leggings with side seams. This
includes ankle-length leggings, capri-pants and shorts knitted leggings. The
standard does not apply to:

  • Knitted leggings with a coating
  • Knitted
leggings for children aged 36 months or younger

The new version of the
standard contains several important technical changes of which stakeholders
should be aware. These include the addition of provisions relating to:

  • A requirement that children’s clothing must also comply with the corresponding provisions of GB 31701
  • A rule that color fastness testing is exempt for natural color or bleached products
  • Judgement rules for single pieces
  • Sizing
  • Cut-and-sew rules for elastic tight knitted leggings
  • A requirement and test method for seam elongation of elastic tight knitted leggings
  • Requirements for dimension deviation for elastic tight knitted leggings
  • Judgement rules for other batches
  • Test method for color difference
  • Sketch for knitted leggings

The new version also has
adjustments relating to:

  • Normative
    references and terms
  • Other technical
requirements for quality, sewing and appearance defects, the requirements
    in Table 2 in FZ/T 73029-2009
  • Technical requirements
for vertical and crosswise extension value
  • Sampling position
    for fiber content testing
  • Measurement rules
for vertical and crosswise extension testing
  • Instructions for
    use

There have also been revisions
to the:

  • Applicable scope of the standard
  • Product classification
  • Evaluation scope for pilling
  • Test method for pilling
  • Condition and sampling
number for vertical and crosswise extension testing values

In comparison to FZ/T
73029-2009, FZ/T 73029-2019 has also removed the grade classifications for
specification dimensions and size, and Tables 1 and 3.
