ISO Safety of Toys Standard Aligned with EU and ASTM Standards

In June 2020, the International
Organization for Standardization (ISO) published two amendments to its Safety
of Toys standard – ISO 8124-1:2018.

ISO 8124-1:2018 Safety of toys — Part
1: Safety aspects related to mechanical and physical properties – applies to
any product or material designed or clearly intended for use in play by
children aged under 14. The requirements in the standard apply to the toy as it
is initially received by the consumer and as it will be subjected to normal use
and abuse during foreseeable conditions (unless specifically noted otherwise).

The two amendments in June 2020 bring
the standard into line with the latest versions of EN 71-1 and ASTM F963. The
amendments are:

  • ISO 8124-1:2018/AMD.1:2020 – ‘Flying Toys’
  • ISO 8124-1:2018/AMD.2:2020 – ‘Various Toys’
