SGS’s state-of-the-art laboratory in Suwanee, Georgia, USA, has expanded its range of CB scheme services to include safety and performance testing on, and provide certification for:
- Electroencephalographs (EEG) under IEC 60601-2-26
- Electromyographs and evoked response equipment under IEC 60601-2-40
Accreditation was given by the IEC System for Conformity Assessment Schemes for Electrotechnical Equipment and Components (IECEE).
The CB Scheme is a global system promoting the mutual acceptance of test reports and certificates regarding the safety of electrical and electronic components, equipment and products. It is a driving force in making sure only safe, consistent and well-made products enter the market.
These new standards both require additional marking and manual requirements:
- IEC 60601-2-26 must cover essential performance requirements – e.g. accuracy, DC voltage offsets and frequency response
- IEC 60601-2-40 includes testing for accuracy of pulse duration, diagnostic and therapeutic pressure, and visual stimulator outputs
Each standard also has requirements relating to EMC requirements, in addition to those in IEC 60601-1-2.
Commenting on the accreditation, Robert Burek, Global Electro-Medical Technical Director, stated: “Adding IEC 60601-2-26 & 60601-2-40 to our electro-medical service offerings adds significant benefit to our Suwanee Laboratory. This addition allows for SGS to offer an even more complete CB service to our customers.”
