Press Releases

The International Association for Textile Care Labelling (GINETEX) has registered five trademarked symbols in China and India. These are the symbols for washing, bleaching, drying, ironing and professional care.

GINETEX promulgates these pictograms via its international network, with the aim of providing consumers with a harmonized and accurate way of disseminating information on textile care. The five main care symbols are trademarked intellectual property around the world and are registered with the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).

GINETEX works with the International Standards Organisation (lSO), allowing it to use its care labelling system to help ensure those care symbols have a global reach. The standard IS0 3758:2012 – Textiles – Care labelling code using symbols, helps textile and garment manufacturers, suppliers and retailers all over the world identify the correct care labelling symbol and the appropriate related tests to ensure products are not irreversibly damaged during washing, bleaching, drying, ironing and professional care.

Recently, GINETEX has been focusing on markets that are becoming globally significant – South America, South Africa and several Arabian countries – by registering their symbols in these territories. Now, GINETEX has registered these trademarked textile care symbols in China and India. Many national and international apparel brands export and import textile products in these highly important markets. By registering their symbols in them, GINETEX has moved closer to harmonizing textile and clothing symbols around the world.

SGS Global Laboratories is a GINETEX licensee and has the right to use these trademarked symbols when writing reports, due to their global membership of GINETEX.
