EU Updates List of Standards for Presumption of Conformity with Toy Safety Directive

The European Union (EU) has made four changes to its
list of standards that are taken to demonstrate conformity with Directive
2009/48/EC, the so-called European Toy Safety Directive (TSD).

Implementing Decision (EU) 2021/1992 was published on
November 16, 2021. It repeals Implementing Decision (EU) 2021/867 and includes
four updates to the standards for presumption of conformity:

  • EN 71-2:2020 for
    flammability
  • EN 71-3:2019+A1:2021
    for migration of certain elements
  • EN 71-4:2020 for
experimental sets for chemistry and related activities, and
  • EN 71-13:2021 for
olfactory board games, cosmetic kits and gustative games

Previous iterations of these standards will be
withdrawn on May 15, 2022:

  • EN 71-2:2011+A1:2014
  • EN 71-3:2019
  • EN 71-4:2013
  • EN 71-13:2014
