Stakeholders are reminded that the People’s Republic of China’s Administration of Market Supervision and Standardization Administration has published a new product standard for footwear shanks.
Issued on August 20, 2021, the standard – GB/T 28011-2021 – will replace GB/T 28011-2011 when it comes into effect on March 1, 2022. It is applicable to metal and non-metal shanks for footwear sizes greater than or equal to 200 mm but is not applicable to shanks made from wood or similar materials. It can be applied to boots.
Stakeholders should be aware there are several updates to the previous iteration of the standard. These cover a variety of provisions, including:
- Scope – previous iteration was only applicable to metal shanks; new standard is applicable to metal and non-metal shanks but no applicable to wooden and similar material shanks
- Definitions
- Classification
- Requirements for marking, appearance quality, longitudinal stiffness, fatigue resistance, hardness, bending resistance and length measurement
- Test method for bending resistance
- Method for judgment of result
